Why compare Health Insurance?

Get the right cover at the right price

Whether you’re taking out a policy for the first time or your renewal has just landed, comparing the market is the only way to know you’re getting the right cover at the right price. Insurers price risk differently and premiums shift year on year, so a policy that was competitive when you first took it out may no longer be your best option.

If you already hold a policy, switching doesn’t have to mean starting from scratch – in many cases, conditions already covered under your existing policy can continue to be covered under a new one, so you don’t lose out by moving.

Switching explained

Switching is easier than it sounds

If you already have a policy, switching insurer generally requires meeting a few standard criteria – most commonly no claims in the past 12 months, no ongoing symptoms or treatment, and nothing planned or pending. Every insurer’s exact criteria differ slightly, and we’ll talk you through what applies to your situation.

Done properly, switching means conditions already covered under your current policy continue to be covered under your new one –  so you keep continuity of cover while potentially improving your price or benefits.

How we find your best price

How we find your best price

Every insurer prices risk differently, and the right policy depends entirely on your circumstances, whether you’re switching or starting fresh — so a generic figure wouldn’t reflect what’s right for you.

When you get in touch, we’ll ask about your current cover (if any), your priorities and your budget, then compare cover and pricing across our panel of leading UK insurers to find the option that gives you the best value. It’s free, independent, and there’s no obligation to proceed.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose cover for conditions I'm already covered for if I switch?

In most cases, no — insurers typically honour “continued personal medical exclusions” for conditions already covered under your previous policy, meaning you don’t start from zero. We’ll confirm exactly how this applies to your situation.

When's the best time to compare — only at renewal, or any time?

You can compare at any time, but renewal is often the most natural point, since that’s when your premium is set to change anyway. Comparing before you auto-renew means you’re not paying more than you need to by default.

Will switching affect any loyalty benefits I've built up?

This depends on the insurer and the specific benefit — we’ll flag anything relevant to your existing policy before you make a decision.

Can I switch mid-policy, or do I have to wait until renewal?

Most switches happen at renewal to avoid gaps or overlaps in cover, but we can talk through your specific circumstances if your situation is different.

How much does this cost me?

Nothing — our comparison and advice service is completely free and independent. We’re paid by the insurer once you take out a policy, not by you.
